Finally, the city of Charlotte is getting back the sports icon that they’ve always deserved, the member of NBA royalty that other basketball franchises will forever be jealous of.
Hugo the Hornet is coming home.

It’s been a long, painful route for both Hornets fans and the people of Charlotte, North Carolina. Due to financial constraints and a franchise owner that allegedly couldn’t keep his hands to himself, the original Charlotte Hornets ran off to New Orleans and eventually changed their name to the Pelicans, a member of the animal kingdom that has no place in basketball, especially after following up multiple champion of the NBA Mascot Slam Dunk Contest Hugo the Hornet. Meanwhile, the NBA promised the city of Charlotte a replacement franchise, and ended up giving them the Bobcats.
Now, with the Hornets franchise name available after being jettisoned by Pelicans owner Tom Benson, Charlotte has swooped in to reclaim it and the mascot that comes with it: Hugo the Hornet.
Now we wait to make sure that Hugo the Hornet is celebrated in all his fuzzy glory and that Charlotte doesn’t bring back their own blue and white version of the Brooklyn Knight.
With a suspicious logo like the above, it’s anyone’s guess which Hugo we’ll get.
